Chemical Damp Proof Courses

Chemical Damp Proof Courses or Chemical DPC’s are the quickest, simplest and cheapest way of stopping dampness from travelling up your walls. A Chemical DPC can be installed with minimal disruption and in the majority of cases is extremely reliable. Non-toxic and odourless, the chemical in the form of pre-packed sausages is injected into pre-drilled holes along the mortar bed of a wall at low level.

Once cured, the silicone based chemical effectively disrupts the path of rising dampness via what we call capillary action. If you can imagine stacking 2 bath sponges on top of each other with a piece of cloth in-between them and then sit them in a puddle, you will find that within a few minutes, even the top sponge has become damp. This is due to the capillaries in the sponges drawing moisture upwards. Typical household bricks work in a very similar way, drawing ground water up through the masonry and mortar joints where it starts to appear on your internal walls as damp patches, we inject the joint between the bricks providing a barrier that the moisture is unable to pass beyond thus solving the problem!
